Techniques for FIT
——-
- Someone once told me that worrying is like paying interest on money you haven’t borrowed yet. Stop stewing and take some action or do this: next week, write your worry down on paper, wad it up, and throw it away. Move on.
- I see nothing wrong with asking for help. Self-advocacy requires it now and then. Next time you travel, head straight to the concierge and let them help. Then tip accordingly.
- Days should end with the gratefulness exercise (3 things your grateful for and why) and, you know what? Start your day that way too. Every day is a gift, enjoy it.
- Every time I get a handwritten thank you note, it makes me smile. If you want to stand out, send notes.
Being Human – Wishing won’t make it so

“You’ll get knocked down over and over and over again, and you get back up.” — Elizabeth Holmes,
I finally got around to watching the HBO documentary on Theranos, the health technology company gone bad. Like most documentaries, it runs a little long but it’s a thought provoking commentary on “fake it ’til you make it.” At what point does the thing you’re pretending come true? And what happens if it doesn’t?
All projections about the future are guesses. The past is easier to interpret and winners write the history books. That said, we need to hone our ability to look for both sides of an argument because it’s intellectually honest. A little alarm needs to go off if we agree with everything we see, hear, and feel, and especially if the opposite happens.
I go back to my visit to China where it seemed every story we were told involved duality, the pull between the Yin and the Yang. Two opposite forces that are complimentary and create movement. Life is a battle between our expectations and reality and that’s just how it is. Next week, be on the lookout for those things you believe to be true and those things you vehemently disagree with. Pause and consider the opposite because as the protagonist in Siddhartha says, “in every truth the opposite is equally true.”
Good stuff.

Get good at selling to investors or get good at selling to customers. Choose one.
I have a new article, “From Investment Hunter to Investor’s Prey.” This one is for the NCFA, an association for Crowdfunding and Fintech companies in Canada. I guess that makes me among the last of the famous international playboys.

I know I keep talking about this but it gets me excited. I have put together an epic event combining the best of business development training and a Green Bay Packers game. If you’re interested, I promise lots of learning, some great networking, and a Lambeau Field experience to remember forever. Plus, if you register and pay early, you save a few dollars and get a higher ROI! Thank me later.
