Techniques for FIT
——-
- Have your ever thought motivation isn’t the end-all-be-all? Jim Rohn agrees. He said, “Motivation alone is not enough. If you have an idiot and you motivate him,now you have a motivated idiot.” Love that.
- Although your people know what they should do, when they don’t do it motivation sounds like the answer. Consider this alternate idea: Focusing on building momentum, not motivation. Momentum is what drives long term results.
- There needs to be a spark of motivation to get started with anything, but once that happens, motivation depends on building momentum and sustaining it over time.
- You, gentle reader, will set an appointment with yourself next Tuesday morning at 7am to sit and think about your people’s momentum. Find examples of team members on a roll and the ones struggling for consistency. What can be done to help continue or build momentum?
Being Human – Reflection
————————————————————
“For contemplation is both the highest form of activity (since the intellect is the highest thing in us, and the objects that it apprehends are the highest things that can be known) and also it is the most continuous, because we are more capable of continuous contemplation than we are of practical activity.”
– Aristotle

The older I get the more I’m drawn to quotes alluding to limited activity. Thinking deeply on a subject is such a thing and we humans simply don’t spend enough time in reflection. It starts in grade school where we’re tested, handed the corrected exams, and on to the next thing. No time spent looking for mistakes or learning from them. No wonder by the time we get to adulthood we go-go-go, cramming every waking moment with activities or filling gaps idly scrolling through social media.
In the last month, four of my childhood friends have/are dealing with the loss of parents. It reminds me of this graphic I put together a few years ago:
Each box is roughly a year and I can tick off a few more boxes today. It’s good to contemplate the grid every once in a while.
Take a moment next week and draw out your own grid. It’s impossible to know how many boxes to include, but that’s part of the reflection.
Random Stuff

It’s all about the muffin
In France, at the PSG soccer game, in addition to watching Neymar eat turf, one can get food stuffs.
Notice that the meal deal is a sandwich or hot dog, a drink . . .but no fries.
A chocolate muffin.
If I lived in Paris I’d be at least 300 lbs. Except maybe I’d smoke. Not sure what direction Paris Greg would go.
