Newsletter #81 – Coaches, Opinions, and Dogs

GREG’S RIGHT FIT NEWSLETTER #81
————————————————————
Quick notes to help you get more done in less time. . . next week.

In this issue:

– Techniques for FIT
– Being Human
– Random Stuff

Techniques for FIT
————————————————————

  • Coaches coach, players play. Great coaches understand the power of individual strengths. Like Krsychewski said when asked why the triangle offense is so great: Triangle offense? How about Jordan and Kobe? They’re more important than the triangle offense!
  • A big FIT attitude is this: “I am willing to try anything, but I need to do it in a way I can live with. In a way that matches my nature and fits who I am.”
  • The studies show you’re happiest with your work when you feel like you’re in control of reaching assigned outcomes. Use that lens when managing your people.
  • I just read that Facebook had to shut down an AI project because the robots invented their own language to communicate with one another. I guess FIT doesn’t apply to all sentient beings.

Being Human – Testing
————————————————————

How will we know it’s working?

Opinions make me cringe.

You can have a lot of smart people give opinions, but one small test will tell us what we need to know. We’re after evidence when deciding on what works.

Tests tell us which opinions are going to work.

Next week, test it.

Random Stuff

Billy Collins – Poet Laureate

If you haven’t read or listened to Billy Collins lately, take a peek next week.

A few weekends ago I caught up with an old friend and we spent an inordinate amount of time talking about dogs. I am thinking about that right now and it reminds me of the second of Billy Collins dog poems.

Enjoy the weekend!
