Techniques for FIT
——-
- “Don’t make little plans.” You’ve heard this, the rationale being little plans aren’t exciting, so make big ones. The quote comes from a famous architect and makes sense in that context. For 2020, focus less on the size of your plans, more on whether or not the plan gets you excited.
- One way to get excited about a yearly plan is to mentally jump ahead to December 2020 and describe how the year ended up. Pick two or three of exciting accomplishments then work backwards. What has to be in place October 2020 for December to happen? What about August? etc. back to January. Then get to work.
- With your end in mind, your next steps outlined, and your enthusiasm growing consider what will knock you off track. Your history is full of examples, list two and come up with ways to prevent them knocking you off track again.
- Now, you’re left with something close to a not-little plan for 2020. Why? To get here, you’ve been asking yourself “How” and “What” questions which just happen to be your sub-conscious brain’s favorite questions to work on while you toil away at life. You’re already working on it! Good stuff.
Being Human – Looking back
————————————————————
“To observe attentively is to remember distinctly.” – Edgar Allan Poe
What do you remember about 2019? What happened from 2010-2019?
It’s a luxury to take a full day to review your year but it’s worth it. This being a decade end year, I’m going back-back-back-back! as Bill Blodgett used to say.
I don’t do it to be sentimental, I don’t do it to get ahead, I just want to exercise my memory muscle a bit. We are the stories we tell ourselves, as they say, so if I’m looking for anything it’s details. Trying to remember distinctly.
Happy New Year to you!

“Adventure is worthwhile.” – Aristotle
Have you ever wanted to wander around another country with me and a group of strangers from the midwest? Next August it can happen.
My lovely bride is leading a group to Greece for 12 days. She’s a humanities instructor and she’s joining forces with a history instructor to talk to citizens of Omaha about ancient Greece, then we fly over and wander around the sights for a few weeks. The first pre-trip prep event is hosted by her school’s culinary institute and pairs Greek food and wines with Greek art and history knowledge dropped in.
If you’re around Omaha, the wine event is Jan. 10th and 11th:

and the trip starts August 18th:

Sounds like fun, right? I think so too.
